Fwd: 8/15 - Wassaic Project Summer Festival - GROUP SHOW curated by Emily Schroeder

"FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Normal Projects is pleased to announce its participation in The Wassaic Project Summer Festival 2009. The Wassaic Project is a culmination of art and music with a local community atmosphere at a mill with a grain elevator in upstate NY. The New York Times recently described the Wassaic Project as perhaps the first of its kind in the United States. Read more about it at http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/29/arts/design/29wassaic.html?_r=1&ref=design.

Please join us on August 15th from 6-8p for the opening reception for Incantations in Migration of Summer's Wonderlust and Landscape, curated by Emily Schroeder, at Maxon Mills (Ground Floor) during the Wassaic Project Summer Festival. The show culminates as series of reactions that may or not be related to the landscape present or semblances of. With direct quotation from poet, John Ashbery (b. 1927), "Just because the river looks like it's flowing backwards/ Doesn't mean that motion doesn't mean something," written in 1987 was originally utilized as translation to transition the curator relocated from New York to Chicago, and also aptly describes the motion toward creating a community event in a contemporary art setting in a relic of industrial past. This group show features installation on the ground floor of the Maxon Mills as well as through the Wassaic Project grounds. Video will be presented in conjunction with a series of small paintings and work on paper.
